New 3DS consoles are announced in the Nintendo Direct today, appropriately named “New 3DS” and “New 3DS LL”, respectively. These new models include a faster RAM, upgraded NFC standards, new buttons and an additional smaller circle pad, re-positioning of the card slot, power button and stylus slot. But two features that got me excited are (1) better 3D veiwing experience and (2) customize-able covers!
According to the source, the new consoles utilizes the front camera to detect the position of the eyes and automatically the screen adopts to the tilt. This significantly increases the viewing angle in 3D mode.
For me, this is what attracted me most of the new features (made me think of upgrading). The plastic covers are highly swappable which gives you more freedom in how your OWN console will look like. The home screen will also have themes giving you a highly personalized look and feel of the console.
These are announced to be released in Japan by October 11, 2014 (which is before the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, they could do bundles?), costing 16,000 yen and 18,800 yen for the regular and XL variant, respectively. No international release date has been confirmed. s4
